The project is dealing with Ruwais, a city with approx. 13,000 residents, located in the desert, south-eastern of the capital Abu Dhabi (at a distance of approx. 220 km). It was founded by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in 1982 and expanded in 2000. Ruwais mainly provides housing for workers employed at the nearby ADNOC industrial complex.
In the beginning, the new city expansion (working title: “phase 3”) comprised approx. 4,000 residents. In the meantime, the population figure has been successively increased to approx. 13,000 due to various modifications of the master plan. The master plan was prepared by AZZA Associate Architects (Penang, Malaysia). The planning was commissioned to Altorath Consulting Engineers – an engineering company domiciled in Abu Dhabi.
IPRO – acting as subconsultant commissioned by SHW is in charge of the planning of infrastructure in the fields of water supply and distribution as well as road construction.
The project is divided into 3 parts, hereinafter called “packages”.
